Send Out Cards and Get More Customers

I recently attended a sales seminar, and the presenter, Phyllis Grant, asked for a show of hands: she wanted to see how many of us send out thank you cards to our customers. Only one hand in was raised amongst the crowd: my own. Phyllis congratulated me on my decision to regularly send out cards, and said that, in her wealth of experience, she has found that surprisingly few business owners do this. Phyllis asked me if my business had grown since I started to send out cards, and I said “Definitely!”
Phyllis went on to explain that, sure, we all shake hands at the end of a sale to thank them for their business -- but she asked the crowd: “How many times have you heard that?” Phyllis emphasised that the words could be very sincere at the end of a sale, but they carry less weight than a gesture at that point. Phyllis said that the solution is very simple: to leave an impression that will truly help build a good relationship long afterwards, send out a card that says "Thank you"!
Phyllis added that the message in the card doesn't have to be long... just sincere. I’ve certainly found that “less is more”, as long as the message is genuine.
